“50 Shades of Grey” actor Luke Grimes and “Dear White People” star Kyle Gallner are both in negotiations to star alongside Bradley Cooper in the upcoming army drama, “American Sniper,” report Variety and The Wrap, respectively.

The film is based on the story of Chris Kyle (Cooper), a Texas native who becomes a Navy Seal Chief with the highest number of sniper kills in U.S. military history. Grimes is set to play Marc Lee, a fellow Navy Seal alongside Kyle, while Gallner will play a sniper who earns the nickname “Goat” after his first kill ends up being a goat. Sienna Miller, Jake McDorman and Cory Hardrict also star.

The script was written by Jason Hall, along with Clint Eastwood, Robert Lorenz and Andrew Lazar. Eastwood is set to direct and Cooper will produce as well as star.

Grimes is known for his recurring role in the vampiric series “True Blood” as well as just wrapping filming for “50 Shades of Grey” as Grey’s brother. Gallner starred in the “A Nightmare on Elm Street” remake with Rooney Mara and YA adaptation “Beautiful Creatures.”

7. 50 Shades of Grey
We know people claim they haven’t read E.L. James‘ erotic novel but someone is with over 90 million copies sold worldwide. People have been cringing at the thought of it being made into a film but at the same time, we know you’re curious. As are we. The film making process had some hurdles in 2013 with the first choice lead actor Charlie Hunnam dropping out at the last minute. But, the role of Christian Grey was soon filled with BBC2′s The Fall‘s Jamie Dornan. Dornan was just voted Breakthrough Actor of 2013, according to RadioTimes.com. We did a short post when the first snaps of Dornan and Dakota Johnson came out as their respective characters, Grey and Anastasia Steele, and while not a lot of people “liked” the post, thousands did take a look. We’re on the edge of our seat to see what comes of the film. Even James herself is “terrified” when discussing production, as she elaborates here.

Those who enjoyed the great screen chemistry between True Blood’s Deborah Ann Woll and newcomer Luke Grimes will be disappointed to know Grimes is exiting the series and won’t be a part of the vampire drama’s upcoming seventh and final season. His character James, however, will remain on the show, as he’s set to be recast.

TVLine reports that Grimes, who played the dreamy imprisoned vampire James, has unexpectedly left True Blood. HBO has confirmed the news, stating that “The role of James is being recast due to the creative direction of the character.” Which seems like an intentionally vague definition that explains very little about the situation, however TVLine’s sources say Grimes asked to be let out of his contract “after he learned what producers had in store for James in Season 7.”

Knowing True Blood as we do, we might jump to the conclusion that Grimes objected to something that was either very sexual or very violent — or both, however TVLine’s insider information suggests Grimes’ exit may have something to do with Woll. The site’s source noted the actor’s interest in working with Deborah Ann Woll when he signed on for the show, and how he was “disappointed to learn that they were going in a completely different direction” with the character in the upcoming season. This, after he read some scripts for Season 7. So that may give us a better idea of what went wrong, as well as a vague potential-spoiler about James and Jessica’s future. But we can only speculate.

Either way, it’s a big disappointment, as Grimes and Woll really clicked on screen. Woll’s character Jessica found herself nearly forced into a sexual encounter with Grimes’ James when the two were imprisoned together. James was a gentleman enough to refuse, despite being tortured for it…
